Feeding Flexibility: How Long & How Often? In the early weeks, feeding cues can be hard to figure out. Avoid schedules and remember: every baby’s signals are S different. Here are some general guidelines: ASIC B Feed 30–40 minutes 15–20 minutes on each breast BREASTFEEDING Is Baby Ready to Feed? Follow Their Lead Feed every 1.5–3 hrs How will you know when your baby is ready to feed? From the start of one feed to Watch and listen for these typical feeding cues, even the start of the next when baby’s asleep: • Sucking or rooting. 1.5-3 hrs • Restlessness or hand-to-mouth movements. • Small sounds.
